Two months after my wedding, I started practicing meditation. Some people might find that strange. After all, newly married couples are supposed to be enjoying the happiest moments of their lives together.
But my husband was never the reason I searched for meditation. He is a kind and caring person. The real reason was something deeper that I had carried inside my heart for years.
Before getting married, I often felt a heavy emotional weight in my chest. Sometimes it felt like a huge rock sitting there, making it hard to breathe. I also struggled with digestive issues and frequent headaches.
Even after marriage, my worries did not disappear.
I constantly worried about whether I could be a good daughter-in-law. I worried about becoming a good mother in the future. I worried about failing in my married life. My mind was always full of anxiety and endless thoughts.
I had always been a religious person who prayed sincerely, but I still felt something was missing. It felt like there was no place where my mind could truly rest.
Then one day, I came across a flyer for meditation and decided to try it.
Finding Peace Through Meditation
When I first started meditating at Flushing Meditation, I didn’t realize how much it would change my life.
Through meditation, I gradually began to find peace within myself. I started feeling grateful for the hardships I had faced in my life instead of being burdened by them.
I have always been someone who easily becomes emotionally attached to things, people, and expectations. Because of this, it took time for my mind and heart to heal. Letting go of those attachments was not easy.
Meditation became a process of facing myself.
At times, it felt like a battle within my own mind. But as I continued practicing, I started to feel the emotional knots inside me slowly untangle.
I meditated sincerely because I truly wanted to get better.
Letting Go of Pressure and Expectations
Over time, I was able to release the pressure that came from the expectations of others and from my own expectations.
I had always felt intense pressure to become a perfect mother and raise perfect children. Those thoughts created constant stress in my mind.
But meditation helped me realize something important:
The stress was not coming from the outside world. It was created by my own thoughts.
Once I understood this, everything began to change.
A Completely Different Mind
Today, my mindset is completely different from before.
Some of my friends still ask me,
“Why do you spend money on meditation when you usually don’t like spending money?”
My answer is always the same:
Money can buy many things, but there are also many things money cannot buy.
Peace of mind is one of them.
Now I am a strong mother of two sons, and my strength comes from the wisdom I discovered within myself through meditation.
My daily life has become calm, meaningful, and truly beautiful.
I am deeply grateful for the meditation practice that helped transform my mind and my life.
